Energetic, eager, and a go-getter - TekLinks' Charlotte Conaway’s advocacy for the community is changing the lives of children in the Birmingham area.

For that work, the United Way Agency's Hands On Birmingham today honored Charlotte with their Corporate Volunteer of the Year award at Ignite: An Innovative Awards Ceremony.

The celebration held at The Club publicly recognized the many unsung and dedicated citizens who are outstanding volunteers and service-oriented leaders in Birmingham and surrounding communities.

Charlotte's most recent community effort is spearheading TekLinks’ Birmingham City Schools Adopt-a-School program during the 2016-17 school year. Not only are TekLinks employees tutoring the children at Oxmoor Valley Elementary, but the company is also providing valuable school supplies, making major improvements to the school grounds and much more.

TekLinks’ goal is to establish school sponsorship best practices in hopes that more Birmingham businesses will sponsor local schools.

"I'm so thankful for this recognition - it's very humbling. The school sponsorship is a TekLinks team effort and wouldn't have happened without the leadership of our CEO Jim Akerhielm and generosity of my co-workers," says Charlotte.

The Ignite Awards ceremony presented awards to volunteers in 7 categories, including HOB Volunteer of the Year, Corporate/Company Volunteer of the Year, Government Volunteer of the Year, Nonprofit Volunteer of the Year, Student Volunteer of the Year, Small Business Volunteer of the Year and Faith-Based Volunteer of the Year.
